To The Glacier Summary

Once upon a time there were four boys who had set out to cover the last dak bungalow which was 10,000 feet above the sea level. The glacier was seven miles away from this bungalow. They had finished all the eatables brought with them. At such a height there was no human being. Only animals like snow bears were found there. They explored a snow field which looked like a valley of Gods. They all sat on rocks to rest for a while.

It was a sunny day and they all sat there to have a sun bath. Suddenly they heard the sound of thunder. All the boys rushed to find some shelter in a nearby cave. It started raining heavily there. Anil had a pocket knife with which all of them carved their names on the rocks of the cave. It was dark all around. The path became very slippery due to rain. They would have slipped in a hole but had a narrow escape due to the moonlight. So they all decided to go back to the cave.

The next morning they again started to climb up but as Kamal dared to take a few steps on the loose pebbles, the ground gave way. They had to grab him by the arms and shoulders. All were soon on the glacier. It was again very slippery there. The narrator also sprained his wrist and hurt his knee due to that. They climbed down back from the way as it was a very narrow passage which brought them back to the dak bungalow.

उस दिन धूप बहुत तेज थी और वे वहाँ बैठकर धूप सेंकने लगे। तभी उन्हें तेज बिजली की गड़गड़ाहट सुनाई दी और वे पास की गुफा की ओर शरण लेने के लिए भागे और गुफा में पहुँचकर बारिश रुकने का इंतजार करने लगे । अनिल के पास एक चाकू था जिससे उन्होंने गुफा के पत्थर पर अपने नाम लिखे। बारिश रुकने पर वहाँ अंधेरा हो चुका था, किन्तु पूर्णिमा की वजह से रोशनी थी। इसी रोशनी के सहारे वे आगे चल पड़े, किन्तु बारिश की वजह से रास्ते में फिसलन बढ़ गई थी जिसकी वजह से वे गढ्ढे में गिरने से बाल-बाल बचे और उन्होंने गुफा में वापस पहुँचने का निश्चय किया।

अगली सुबह उन्होंने यात्रा शुरू की। कमल ने जैसे ही कुछ कदम कंकड़ों पर लिये वह फिसलन भरा था। उन्होंने उसे कन्धे और बाजू पकड़कर बचाया । इसलिए उन्होंने बहुत ही ध्यान से रास्ता अपनाया । लेखक को भी चलते-चलते बाजू में मोच आ गयी और घुटने में भी चोट लग गयी। वापस आने का रास्ता भी बहुत संकरा था, जिस पर होते हुये वे वापस डाक बंगले पर पहुँचे ।

Every Day is A Holiday Summary

Here the author is telling us about a few interesting holidays we celebrate throughout the world. The first one is the ‘World Hello Day’. On this day we have to say ‘hello’ to at least ten persons. It was started on third Sunday of November in 1973 after the end of a war in the Middle East to encourage world peace. This could be made possible only if people could come up and communicate with one another.

The McCormacks wrote letters in many languages and sent them to the leaders of many countries in the world telling them about the World Hello Day. Then McCormacks got a positive response and a holiday was declared every year on this day. McCormacks were congratulated by Pope John Paul II, former U.S. President Ronald Reagan and Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain for making such an effort to bring people together.

The second one is International Day of the Seal. This day is celebrated on 22 March. Many aquariums and marine research centres around the world celebrate this day on the third weekend of March. This holiday was declared to tell people about the dangers seals face from pollution, oil spills etc. Many exhibitions are put up which educate the people about how the seals live, preserve and rescue and again return to their habitats.

The third one is the Do it Day. This day is celebrated on the first Wednesday in September but it is celebrated as per our convenience. The founder of this day was Ethel Cook. She found this day to do all the pending work and to get every thing organised.

This story is written by Phukan Mitra. The story is about a girl named Shruti whose dream was to become a member of Fusion Band and play at the concert. But her father Nabin Sharma was strictly against the western music. Shruti was the best violinist of the Sangeetika Music School. Her father Guru Nabin Sharma was the principal of the school. Guru Nabin Sharma had gifted Shruti a baby violin when she was just six years old and now after nine years she had been playing so well that the listeners always wanted more from her.

Shruti wanted to tell her father about her dream of playing in a Fusion Band and she decided to tell this tonight to her father. That night when Shruti, her father Nabin Sharma and her mother Leela Devi were having their dinner, Shruti told her father that she wanted to participate in the concert. Her father reminded her that she could not have a public performance more than once in six months and she has had her performance a few weeks ago. Nabin Sharma asked her about the concert. Shruti hesitatingly told her father that it was a fusion group and she wanted to play in that group. Nabin Sharma was very strict as he wanted his music to be as pure as possible.

Shruti told that she had lied to her mother that she was going to attend the science classes. In fact she was in her practice session and the whole group depended upon her for the concert. Nabin Sharma refused Shruti to take part in the concert. The next day she went to tell the members of her band who were in fact her friends that she could not take part in the concert. When she reached there everybody was practising for the concert. Shruti wanted to play once for the last time. As they finished up they heard a sound of applause. Shruti was astonished when she saw that her parents Nabin Sharma and Leela Devi were standing there and clapping to their performance.

Nabin was very excited that Shruti has kept the spirit of their raga alive. She has not mixed both the music. Everybody in Shruti’s band was very excited to hear their praise. Shruti wondered about change in her father’s mind. Nabin Master confessed before Shruti that it was her mother Leela Devi who reminded him that once Nabin Sharma himself had argued with his father to take up a western instrument just like Shruti. But now after listening to band Nabin Sharma was confident that their show is going to be a great success. He invited all the members of Shruti’s group to come and practice in their school as all his fears of losing Shruti were baseless.

Her dream was going to come true that day. She wanted to see a lovely fairy who would come on the stage wearing a golden crown and a white dress. He Really is the World’s Greatest Magician Summary

P.C. Sorcar is a very famous magician who is known for his magic in the country and abroad. He was having a show in the New Empire Theatre, Calcutta. We changed our flight to see his show as we could not afford to miss the show. When we reached the theatre we saw that P.C. Sorcar was rehearsing on back stage. The rehearsal took him 40 hours. P. C. Sorcar made us sit in the box office where we saw that all the advance booking seats were full. We walked around the city and found that everybody knew P.C. Sorcar there.

On the opening night the house was full and all types of people from all the regions had come to see the show. The show was two and half hours long and was the best show we had ever seen in our lives. Sorcar has an ability to make people laugh even in the most unlikely situation which holds the audience for a long time. Water from India’ which is produced by Sorcar with a large number of assistants is also a beautiful show. In this, a priest, wearing an orange robe comes in with a silver pitcher on a tray and calls Sorcar that it was a water from India.

Sorcar then calls upon people from Indian region and fills up their glass. His ‘Broomstick’ is also mind blowing. In this, there is the scene of the street in the city. It is dawn and people are just moving round. There is a little boy who is sculling newspaper on crutches. Sorcar took the boys’ crutches and put the boy upon it. Then he took another boy’s hula hoop and put it over the boy. In the end, the same boy threw the crutches away and skipped off the stage. Such shows are beautifully presented by Sorcar. Everything Sorcar does is done by putting his best efforts into the show which makes his show the best in the magic world.

Girl Gang Summary

This story is about the friendship of a group of girls. In this story the author shows how all of them help one another to find the solution of their problems. On one Saturday afternoon Alice was going for shopping in a train. She saw that her classmate Kirsty was also travelling in the same train. A ticket checker came to check the ticket. She told the checker that she might have lost the ticket and had no money to buy another ticket. The checker told her that she would be taken to authority in that case. Kirsty begged before him to forgive her but it was of no use.

One day after school when Alice was about to leave for her home Kirsty came running to her and told her if their geography teacher whom they called the Old Sour Breath comes asking about Kirsty, Alice should pretend that she had not seen her. When geography teacher Mr. Sawyer came and asked about Kirsty, she simply lied that she had not seen her. The teacher took her to the classroom to show what Kirsty had done to the class. All the maps and displays were torn into pieces and everything was lying on the floor. When she came out, she saw that Kirsty was waiting for her outside the school gate with her four friends.

Alice told Kirsty that she had told nothing to Mr. Sawyer. Kirsty told that it was a revenge on Mr. Sawyer as he took girls as inferior one. Next day when Alice opened her geography book she found a note from Kirsty to meet her urgently at 8 o’clock in the park at night. At night the girls assembled in the park. A girl named Sandra was their leader. They all gathered there to take revenge from the ticket collector. They had a bag full of apples which they bombarded on the conductor’s house and ran away. Kirsty told Alice not to utter a word about the incident in front of anybody. Now Alice was the new member of the girl’s power gang.

The Inside – Out Stocking Summary

Once upon a time there was a little unlucky boy named Rex. He always had some or the other reason for him being unlucky such as he would fall down while running or loose a pound from the hole of his pocket. Rex was very good at running races. Once a sports meet was being organised in his school, in which all the sports events such as running, obstacle race and other games were going to take place. Many schools were also taking part in the sports meet. Rex’s headmaster asked him to take part in running race. Then he told his headmaster about how unlucky he was.

He told his headmaster that on that day he would surely have something due to which he would not be able to take part in the race. Lucy, Rex’s sister was very concerned about her brother. She wanted her brother to take part in the race as she was confident that her brother would win the race if he took part. In their own town, there lived an old lady Mother Brown. Lucy visited her and asked how she could bring luck to her brother. Mother Brown suggested that a black cat would bring luck to him. But there was no black cat in their village.

Then Mother Brown told her if on getting up in the morning you put on one of your stockings inside out without noticing then it might make you lucky for that day. Lucy had an idea in her mind. She walked back home and just a night before the sports day she waited for Rex to fall asleep and turned one of his stockings inside out. In the morning Rex put on his stocking inside out without noticing. Lucy and Rex went to the school and Rex won all the races without any obstruction. He was very happy. Lucy thought that she will do the same thing always for his brother to make him lucky. After that Rex usually won all the games and had many lucky days.
