(b) In a class of 45 students, 60% are boys. Find the number of boys in the category.
Solution:
Total students = 45
% of boys = 60%
No. of boys in the class = \(\frac{60}{100}\) × 45 = 27
Number of boys in the class is 27.
(c) In an orchard of 400 trees, 35% are mango trees. 42% were apple trees and the rest were grape vines. How many grape vines are there?
Solution:
Total trees = 400
% of mango trees = 35%
% of apple trees = 42%
% of grape vines = (100 – 35 + 42)%
= (100 – 77)%
= 23%
Number of grape vines = 23% of 400
= \(\frac{23}{100}\) × 400
= 92
92 grape vines are there.
(d) Mr Mahesh earns ₹ 7,200 per month. He spends 33\(\frac{1}{3}\)% on food. Find the amount spent on food.
Solution:
Total earnings = ₹ 7,200 per month
Spends on food = 33\(\frac{1}{3}\)%
Amount spends on food = 33\(\frac{1}{3}\)% of ₹ 7,200
= \(\frac{100}{300}\) × 7,200
= ₹ 2,400
₹ 2,400 is spent on food.
(e) Anil got 440 marks out of 800 and Gopi got 486 marks out of 900 in an examination. Who scored better?
Solution:
Maximum marks = 800
Anil scored = 440
% of marks = (\(\frac{440}{800}\) × 100)% = 55%
Maximum marks = 900
Gopi scored = 486
% of marks = (\(\frac{486}{900}\) × 100)% = 54%
