My dear Mummy,
I am sorry for not having written to you for quite some time. I was a little upset recently because of an embarrassing incident due to my carelessness. However, now things are normal and there is no cause for worry.
Last Sunday I and my hostel friends decided to go for a picnic to Damdama Lake, a picnic spot on the outskirts of the city. We packed some eatables and set forth on our bicycles early in the morning. We enjoyed the picnic watched the alligators in the pond and played games till we were thoroughly exhausted. At dusk we decided to call it a day, and packed our baggage for the return journey. Unfortunately, my bicycle chain broke on the way, leaving me behind. I loaded the bicycle on a rickshaw and proceeded to Uncle Sharma’s house which was close by. I spent the night at his place.
On returning to my hostel the next morning, I was hauled up by my friends, who were unable to offer an explanation for my absence to the warden, who severely reprimanded them. Later I was admonished by the warden, for my carelessness in not informing my whereabouts. My friends had launched a massive manhunt for me, by ringing up my local guardian and friends. They spent a sleepless night and were contemplating to lodge an FIR with the local police in the morning. I felt guilty for the lapse; for it did not strike me that my absence would spell so much trouble. I felt ashamed and apologised, to the warden and I my friends for the embarrassment, I had unknowingly caused to them.
As punishment, I have been denied gate pass for the next three months. Hence It would not be able to spend Deepawali at uncle’s place. All the same I am happy for my friends have forgiven me and things are now back to normal.
Please do not worry about me. Give my love to Rohit and regards to Daddy. I shall be writing to them soon.
