Like and Unlike Decimals
Digits in the Decimal Part are called decimal places
0.28, 0.15, 0.31, 120.56, 115.56
All these numbers have the same number of decimal places. So these are called Like Decimals.
Example of like decimals.
- 7.3, 5.6, 8.9, 7.6, 2.3
- 2.56, 3.57, 9.37, 5.47
- 1.156, 7.376, 5.126, 4.736
0.001, 2.01, 0.02, 3.1, 2.006, 1.10
All these numbers have different number of decimal places. So these are called Unlike Decimals.
- 0.5, 15.45, 7.3
- 57.6, 8.79, 173.567
Converting Unlike Decimals into Like Decimals
Example 1.
Convert unlike decimals 7.6 and 0.36 into like decimals.
Solution:
0.36 – Check the number having a maximum number of decimal places.
7.6 – Add one zero and convert it into decimals.
7.60 and 0.36 are like decimals.
Example 2.
Convert 0.3, 20.8, and 7.318 into like decimals.
Solution:
