The street entertainers tie a rope round the monkey’s necks and hold the string in their hands while travelling from one place to another so that they could not trouble others. On the other hand, cats and dogs are not like monkeys. They can’t entertain the people.

No, his act of following Aunt Ruby and his fiancee to the market is not justified. It was a private moment for them. Perhaps they wanted no interference from their parents or mischievous boy like the narrator. So, the narrator should have let them go on their own to the market.

It seems that the monkey had followed the boy who arrived with the couple. Meanwhile, before the guards or the salesman could react – the monkey ran out of the shop. We all ran behind it. Soon, a big/huge crowd assembled and also started following us. My heart was in my mouth. I felt as if I had lost my pearl necklace worth thousand of rupees to a rowdy monkey. She created quite a rucksuck in the market also. And then she plunged the necklace into the canal. We all dived straight after it. Finally, the customer who was there in my shop prior to the arrival of the monkey was able to locate it. As he handed me back the precious pearl necklace. I heaved a sigh of relief. People keep pets for different purposes. Dogs are kept as pets because they are considered to be faithful guards. But some animals and bird lovers keep them for their amusement. The animals like monkeys and birds should not be caged. They love to move freely in their habitats. So they should be kept free.

What a wonderful experience I had today about human being! How greedy and selfish they are! They can do anything for their materialistic achievements. When I entered the jeweller’s shop I decided to have some fun. So I picked up a pearl necklace and ran away. Everybody was running behind to catch me and to take back the necklace. Oh God! how I enjoyed myself. I bumped into a scotterist who was frightened of his wits. I even picked up a banana and peeling it of started eating while enjoying the sight of huffing and puffing of human beings running after me. Then, off I went again. All of sudden, I made up a plan to tease the greedy jeweller. I threw the necklace into the canal and observed the jeweller’s face. It was changing colours in fear of losing his valuable necklace. So many people jumped into the canal but their efforts proved worth¬less. At last Mr. Rocky found the necklace and handed it over to the jeweller. And he took a sigh of relief.

Monkey Trouble Summary in English

The author’s grandfather was fond of keeping unusual pets so he bought a monkey Tutu from a street entertainer for ten rupees. The monkey was quite mischievous. At first, grandmother objected to have a monkey in the house as they had many pets like goat, white mice and a small tortoise. But, when grandfather told her that it was a girl monkey she agreed. Grandmother always wanted a little girl in her house as she believed they are less troublesome than boys.
Tutu was veiy pretty. She had mischievous eyes and pearly white teeth which often frightened aunt Ruby.

One day aunt Ruby took us all by surprise announcing that she had decided to marry Rocky Fernandes. The author approved of his aunt’s choice because Rocky brought chocolates and cashew nuts for him.

He followed them secretly to the market. Tutu, who had also been watching everything followed them. As Rocky spotted the author near the jewellery shop he called him to join them but aunt Ruby wasn’t pleased. Meanwhile Tutu also slipped into the shop without being noticed by anyone. Tutu grabbed a pearl necklace, they were looking at and wore it and ran outside the shop without listening to anyone. Everyone ran after the monkey. While trying to escape, Tutu leapt on the back of a scooter.

The scooter swerved into a fruit stall and came to a standstill under a heap of bananas. The scooterist found himself in the arms of an angry fruit seller. From an awning, Tutu made a quick landing on a washerman’s donkey. The donkey promptly panicked and rushed down the road.

All the chasers plunged into the canal to find the necklace. Finally it was found by Rocky. He handed it over to the shopkeeper. Rocky and aunt Ruby bought the engagement ring.
When grandmother was preparing wedding cake unnoticed by grandmother, Tutu added herbs, spices, red chilli sauce etc. to it. Some guests were not seen for several days while some thought that the cake had an interesting flavour.

लेखक के दादाजी को अदभुत जानवर रखने का शौक था इसलिए उन्होंने तमाशे वाले से दस रुपये में एक बंदरिया खरीदी। टूटू बंदरिया काफी शैतान थी। पहले तो दादीजी ने टूटू को घर में रखने पर आपत्ति की क्योंकि दादाजी ने पहले से ही घर में एक बकरी, कई सफेद चूहे तथा कछुआ पा रखे थे। लेकिन जब दादाजी ने बताया कि टूटू एक बंदरिया है तो वे मान गईं। दादीजी हमेशा से घर में एक छोटी लड़की चाहती थीं क्योंकि उनका मानना था कि लड़कियाँ लड़कों से कम शैतान होती हैं।
टूटू सुंदर थी। उसकी आँखें शैतानी से भरी थी तथा उसके दाँत मोती जैसे सफेद थे जिनसे आंटी रूबी अक्सर डर जाती थी ।

एक दिन जब आंटी रूबी ने रॉकी फर्नांडीज से शादी करने का फैसला सुनाया तो सभी हैरान रह गये। लेखक ने आंटी की पसंद को रजामंदी दे दी क्योंकि रॉकी उसके लिए बहुत सारी चाकलेट और अखरोट लाता था ।

एक दिन लेखक को रॉकी और रूबी आंटी की बातों से पता चला कि वे सगाई के लिए अंगूठी खरीदने बाजार जा रहे थे। लेखक भी उनके साथ जाना चाहता था परन्तु आंटी ने मना कर दिया।
लेखक ने चोरी छिपे उनका पीछा किया। टूटू जो सब कुछ देख रही थी, वह भी उनके पीछे लुक छिपकर चल दी। रॉकी ने लेखक को जेवर की दुकान पर देख लिया और उसे पास बुला लिया। आंटी रूबी को लेखक का आना पसंद नहीं आया। टूटू भी चोरी-छुपे दुकान के अन्दर आ गयी।

टूटू ने मोतियों का हार छीनकर अपने गले में पहन लिया और बिना किसी की बात सुने दुकान से बाहर भाग गयी। सभी लोग टूटू के पीछे चिल्लाते हुए भागे । टूटू अपने को बचाने के दौरान स्कूटर वाले पर लपकी ।

स्कूटर अचानक फल- विक्रेता से जाकर टकरा गई और केलों के ढ़ेर में आकर रूक गई। स्कूटर चालक स्वयं को एक नाराज फल-विक्रेता के गोद में पाया। टूटू भागते हुए धोबी के गधे के ऊपर बैठ गया। गधा दहशत में आ गया और सड़क की ओर भागने लगा ।
सभी पीछा करने वाले हार ढूँढ़ने के लिए नहर में कूद पड़े । अंततः रॉकी हार को निकालने में सफल रहा। उसने वह हार दुकानदार को लौटाया। रॉकी और रूबी आंटी ने सगाई के लिए अंगूठी खरीदी।
जब दादीजी शादी का केक तैयार कर रही थी तब टूटू ने आँखें बचाकर उसमें जड़ी-बूटियाँ, मसाले व लाल मिर्च आदि मिला दिए । कई मेहमान केक खाने के बाद कई दिनों तक नजर नहीं आए व कई लोगों ने सोचा कि केक का स्वाद बेहतरीन था ।
