Ordering of Numbers
To compare numbers, compare left to right. If the digits at a place are equal, compare the digits at next place on the right.
Remember:
- First we compare the total number of digits.
- Then, we compare the digits in thousand’s place.
- Next, we compare the digits in the hundreds place.
- Lastly, we compare the digits in the tens and ones places respectively.
Example:
8003 < 8043 (we compare the digits in tens place.)
401 < 4123 (4123 has more digits)
