Summary In English Stone-masons carve stones into beautiful shapes. They create beauties out of them. They shape them as if they were alive. All their lives they work but die in starvation. They give their life-blood to stones, but get suffering in tum.

The poet’s father was a stone-mason. Though people advised him not to choose his father’s occupation, he stood by his father. He soothed and comforted him after his day’s work. He glorifies the work of stone-masons. His father met the fate of every stone-mason. He died in harness.

Countless masons worked and died like him. The memories of his father are bitter and harsh. The poet is filled with revolt. Stone-masons build stone houses with stones. But the poet breaks heads with stones.

पत्थर के कारीगर पत्थरों को काट कर सुन्दर रूप देते हैं। वे उनमें सुन्दरता पैदा करते हैं। वे उन्हें ऐसा रूप देते हैं जैसे कि वे जीवित हों। वे जीवन भर कार्य करते हैं परन्तु भूखे मरते हैं। वे पत्थरों को अपना जीवन रक्त देते हैं परन्तु बदले में उन्हें पीड़ा मिलती है।

कवि का पिता पत्थर का कारीगर था। लोगों ने उसे राय दी कि वह अपने पिता का धंधां न चुने। परन्तु उसने अपने पिता का साथ दिया। वह दिन का कार्य समाप्त होने पर अपने पिता को आराम पहुँचाता था। वह पत्थर के कारीगरों के कार्य का गौरव गान करता था।

उसके पिता की किस्मत में भी प्रत्येक कारीगर का अंत था। वह काम करता मर गया। अनगिनत कारीगर ऐसे ही मर गए थे। अपने पिता की स्मृति उसके लिए कटु व कठोर है। कवि में विद्रोह जागृत हो जाता है। पत्थर के कारीगर पत्थर के घर बनाते हैं। परन्तु कवि पत्थरों से सिर फोड़ता है।
