‘A Marriage Proposal’ is a comedy in which the three characters are Stepan Stepanovich Choobookov, Matalia Stepanova, Ivans Vassilievich Lomov. They all are the neighbours. They have friend by relation.
The Lomov wants to Choobookov’s daughter who is Natalian So one day Lomov reached at the house of the Choobookov and tells about the marriage of Natalia and him. The Choobookov becomes happy to learn it. The Lomov has sort temper and Natalia is not a peace mind girl.
Lomov is thirty five years old and Natalia is the twenty five years old. In the talking between the Lomov and Natalia’s the matter of the ox-Meadow property which is a disputed property took place and they removed of the main theme the marriage proposal and also again meeting they quarreled each other with the matter of the dogs Leap and Guess.

“मैरिज प्रयोजल” एक कॉमेडी है, जिसमें तीन पात्र है, चौबोकोव, स्टेपानेव और लोमोव । लोमोव जो की योबोको का पड़ोसी है, एक दिन चोबोकोव के घर उसकी पुत्री नतालिया स्टेपानोव के साथ शादी के प्रस्ताव को लेकर आया । चोबोकोव उस प्रस्ताव को सुनकर बहुत खुश हुआ क्योंकि नतालिया एवं लोमोव एक-दूसरे को अच्छी प्रकार से जानते थे एवं एक-दूसरे से प्यार करते थे।
लोमोव एवं नतालिया के बीच एक मीटिंग हुई जिसमें लोमोव शादी का प्रस्ताव नतालिया के सामने रखना चाहता था । लोमोव ने कहा कि हमलोगों का पुराने समय से ही दोस्ताना रिश्ता है, उसका जायदाद एवं जमीन की अन्तिम छोर नतालिया के जायदाद एवं जमीन के छोर से मिलते हैं । तथा इस बीच विवादास्पद “ऑक्स मिडोज” जायदाद की मामला सामने आय । लोमोव का कहना था कि यह जायदाद उसकी हैं, क्योंकि उसके स्वर्गीय चाची एवं चाची जी के दा जी ने नतालिया के पिता के दादा जी के किसानों को अनिश्चित समय के लिए बिना किसी शुल्क को दिया था।
अतः वह जायदाद लोमोव का है । जबकि नतालिया का कहना था कि वह उनके कब्जे में लगभग चालीस वर्षों से है, अत: उनका है । नतालिया ने इसे साबित करने के लिए लोमोव को कोर्ट में जाने की धमकी दी । लोमोव एक क्रोधी एवं कमजोर दिल का व्यक्ति था । अतः इन सब बातों को सुनकर वह बिना प्रस्ताव दिए ही वापस हो गया । नतालिया के पिताजी ने ची लोमोव एवं उसने परिवार के बारे में भी भला-बुरा कहा । जब लोमोव चला गया तब चोकोव ने बताया कि लोमोव नतालिया से शादी करना चाहता था इसलिए वह प्रस्ताव लेकर नतालिया के मामला आने से वह उदास होकर चला गया ।
नतालिया यह सुनकर अपने पिता का दोषी करार देने लगी और उसे वापस बुलाने को कहने लगी । लोमोव फिर वापस आया ताकि वह प्रस्ताव पेश कर सके । लेकिन दुबारा नतालिया, लोमोव एवं चोकोव के बीच उनके कुत्ते लीप एवं ग्रेस के बारे में चर्चा शुरू हो गयी कि दोनों कुत्ते में कौन श्रेष्ठ है एवं इसी दौरान गर्मागर्म बातचीत शुरू हो गयी । लोमोव जो कि एक कमजोर दिल का व्यक्ति था इन सब बातों को सुनकर बेहोश हो गया और उसका मुख्य उद्देश्य शादी का प्रस्ताव नहीं रख पाने के कारण वह बेहोश हो गया। तब चेकोव ने लोमोव के मुंह पर पानी दिया तथा नतालिया से कहा कि तुम शादी के प्रस्ताव को स्वीकार कर लो नतालिया ने शादी के प्रस्ताव को स्वीकार कर लिया । तब लोमोव भी उठकर बैठ गया और दोनों की शादी हो गई।
