Confusing Pairs Of Adjectives
Some adjectives look similar, but have different meanings.

There is a little sugar left in the jar. (a little means some amount, but not much)
There is little sugar left in the jar. (little means almost none)

A little is used here to mention a small quantity while little is used to bring attention to the smallness of the quantity.

Few people turned up at the function. (few means not many, almost none)
A few people did show up at the party. (a few means not many, but some)

A few is used here to mention a small number of people while few is used to bring attention to the lack of people.

There is some time left for the next class. (some means a little)
There isn’t any time left for the class. Hurry up! (any is used in negative sentences to mean none)
I don’t have much money. (much is used with uncountable nouns; it means a large quantity of)
We planted many trees during the eco – week at school. (many is used with countable nouns; it means a large number of)

Some adjectives are formed from the same word by adding suffixes like – ing and – ed. They look quite similar and, therefore, may seem confusing.

Soni is quite interesting. (Soni is found interesting by other people.)
Soni is quite interested in games. (Soni finds the game interesting.)
