Mitra Phukan is an Indian author who writes in English. She is also a translator, columnist, and trained classical vocalist. She currently lives in Guwahati, Assam. She writes extensively on Indian music as a reviewer and essayist. Her works have been translated into many languages, and several of them are taught in colleges and Universities. As a translator herself, she has translated into English the works of some of the best-known Assamese writers of fiction. Her published literary works include four children’s books, a biography, three novels, “The Collector’s Wife”, “A Monsoon of Music” (Penguin-Zubaan), and “What Will People Say?” (Speaking Tiger), several volumes of translations of other novels, and a collection of fifty of her columns, “Guwahati Gaze”.

Act-I
A group of young musicians are practicing Indo-Western fusion music. They are Shruti Sharma, who plays the violin; Avinash, the tabla player; Iqbal, the flutist; and Peter, the keyboard player. They are practising for an upcoming concert. After the practice, they were packing up.

They praised Shruti Sharma for her good performance in the concert Parbatpuri Daily Clarion, along with her father Nabin Sharma. But Shruti was immersed in her thoughts. Shruti was doing this music practice without the permission of her father. Shruti’s father was against fusion music. He felt that the violin should not be used to play Western tunes. Shruti’s friends urged her to talk to her father. She agreed and decided to talk to him.

Act-II
Shruti had just finished her dinner along with her father. But she was lost in her thoughts. Shruti gathered courage and asked permission from her father to take part in a group concert of Indo-Western fusion music. Nabin Sharma was angry. He felt that Shruti has lost her ability to appreciate music.
Shruti, however, requested her father to attend her practice once. Her mother felt that Shruti must have asked prior permission of her father for practising fusion music.

Act-III
Shruti joined her friends again for practice, which she felt would be the last time. She felt she would join them for practice one last time and then tell her friends she could not attend the concert. In the middle of the performance, Shruti’s parents enter the room and start enjoying the performance. When the practice was completed, Nabin, Shruti’s father, congratulated them for the excellent performance. He told them that they could use his music room for their practice.
