Reflective Essay Topic – Experience Is The Best Teacher

Introduction: “Experience is a hard teacher because she gives the test first, the lesson afterwards.”

  • Experiences could be good or bad. Both are valuable.
  • Wise men learn from the experience of others and from books of great men.
  • Life is one great journey of learning and experience is the best teacher

Conclusion: Its lessons can save us from many pitfalls of life.

“Experience is a hard teacher because she gives the test first, the lesson afterwards,” said Vernon Sanders Law. Indeed lessons learnt through personal experience leave an indelible mark on our mind, which are invaluable and lasting. Like a good teacher, her lessons are very thorough and one can ignore it, to one’s own peril.

Experiences could be good, like helping a person in need, or bad like losing money on a risky investment. The important thing is the learning that we get from them. One gains from good experience arid steers clear from harmful ones.

Telling a child not to play with a match box, would probably have no impact on him, but once he scourges his hand with the match stick, he will never in his lifetime play with the match box. Indeed learning from personal experience is more lasting and valuable than following the advice of others or reading about them from books or periodicals.

However wise men learn from the experience of others, like parents, teachers or an elder. They also profit from books that are a virtual treasure house of knowledge and experience of great men. Eulogising the importance of books Francis Bacon said, “Some books are to be tasted, others swallowed and some few to be chewed and digested.”

Such books like the biographies of great statesmen, proverbs and folklore are a gold mine of knowledge and experience which enrich our lives. Unfortunately people prefer to learn from bitter experience rather than appreciate age-old truths like “All that glitters is not gold,” “A bird in hand is worth two in the bush,” or “Honesty is the best policy.” The bad experienced once undergone is unlikely to be repeated in their lifetime.

Life is one great journey of learning and experience is the best teacher. We learn the virtue of patience and forbearance when faced with adversity, courage in the face of danger and wisdom from mistakes. However many people learn the lesson very late in life. Such people ignore the simple dictum that ‘Health is wealth’, to regret it later when their life becomes a wretch.

“Life is brief – a little hope, a little dream and then goodnight”. In this short span of life, one should not only learn from one’s own experience but should also profit from the experience of others. This would save us from many pitfalls of life.

The mission had its origin in the Prime Minister’s Independence Day speech, inviting global companies to pick India to locate factories, promising to replace hurdles with red-carpet welcomes. Make in India, an international marketing campaigning slogan was officially launched on 25 September 2014.

The push for manufacturing could not have come at a better time as today, India needs to grow faster to increase the income level. It will create jobs for over a million people who join the workforce every year. “We at the Tata Group welcome PM Modi’s INJake in India program. It’s an opportunity to make India truly and globally competitive,” was related by Tata group CEO Cyrus Mistry. The perfect logo of the mission is personified by a lion with a mechanical body. Modi exclaimed that the logo is derived from Ashoka Chakra.

The lion in the logo stands for strength and power while the wheels are a sign of development and progress. He further said: “My definition of FDI for the people of India is First Develop India.” While inviting world-class companies to India, Narendra Modi also requested Indian manufacturers not to leave the country and supported that Indian companies too should shine as multinational companies.

Analysts give the reason as to why the mission could prove beneficial for India: contrasting to farming, which employs nearly 50% of population, but contributes just 1 4% to GDP. The services sector contributes nearly 60% to the economy, but employs just around 27% of workforce. Indian manufacturers are becoming more competitive with respect to their product designs, manufacturing and testing facilities. Additionally, India is the third largest producer of chemicals in Asia and sixth by output, in the world. Through the last four decades, India’s space programme has attracted global attention for its accelerated rate of development.

These few examples support the fact that India has every potential to compete with developed nations. However as a flip side of a coin, there are some challenges too. India’s poor infrastructure and logistics shortfall with inefficient transport networks makes it tough for manufacturing companies to achieve just-in-time production. “The combination of improved transport connectivity and simplified, one point collection of taxation will go a long way in implementing the Prime Minister’s vision of ‘Make in India’,” Deutsche Bank says.

A lot of sectors have been included in the mission some of which are as automobiles, chemicals, construction, ports, railways, space etc. Make in India’s success relies a lot on the fate of the newer companies. But, since its inception, a lot of reputed multinational companies have re-analysed their expansion plans. Narendra Modi is about to give the source, the tool to improve the purchasing power of the common man. The coming together of smart entrepreneurs, employees, infrastructure and know-how could over time become a durable advantage, as had happened in China’s case.

Descriptive Essay Topic – A Visit To A Hill Station

Introduction: When and where I went

  • Where I stayed
  • What we did and saw
  • Other places visited

Conclusion: A delightful experience

During the summer vacation I along with my cousin, decided to visit Mussoorie, a hill station in the Garhwal mountains of Uttarakhand, also known as the Queen of the hills. The eight-hour journey by the Mussoorie Express was quite uneventful and early morning we reached Dehradun, a city on the foothill of the Garhwal mountains. The two-hour taxi ride from Dehradun to Mussoorie was very exciting. The sharp turns and the steep climb made my stomach cuddle. My cousin sensing my state gave me some lemon drops. Soon the nausea abated and I started enjoying the beauty of the mountains, full of greenery.

Occasionally glancing down the deep gorges would send a chill down my spine, which made me cling desperately to the seat as the taxi swung from side to side. The first thing that struck me as I stepped out of the taxi was the cool refreshing breeze. It was a welcome change from the hot 100 we had left behind. We headed towards a tourist lodge, which was a little distance away from ‘The Mall’. By the time we reached it we were panting for breath.

After a quick breakfast we decided to go for a hike. Avoiding the overcrowded Mall road, we walked on the quiet wooded path towards the Sisters Bazar side of the town, which still retains much of its pristine beauty, with big pine and deodar trees. On the Mall we took a trolley for going to Gun Hill Top. I was mesmerised by the flora and fauna of the valley as the trolley ascended. A motley crowd of tourists on Gun Hill Top was busy shopping in the tastefully decorated stalls, which offered novelty items and eatables. Looking through the telescope I saw many mountain peaks covered with snow. The south side of the ridge overlooked the Doon valley and the Shivalik Hills. I got myself photographed as Gabbar Singh, the legendary tinsel dacoit before returning to the lodge.

Early next morning we set went to the Kempty Falls, which was half an hour’s drive from Mussoorie. The silver stream of water falling from a great height was indeed enchanting. Small droplets struck me on the face, though I was standing quite a distance away. The children were having a whale of a time, in the little pool of water a little distance away from the waterfall. The merrymaking was so infectious, that I also joined in the fun and got completely drenched, standing below the silver stream of water. After a quick change, and a sumptuous lunch, we returned to the lodge for packing our baggage, to return the next morning.

As the taxi raced down hill, I bid farewell to the lovely mountains with a heavy heart. I made a solemn promise to come again for a longer stay in the lap of nature.

The rise in temperature even by 1°C melts the snow at the poles which if left unchecked, will increase the water level, converting the entire landmass of the Earth into a huge sea. Another change that global warming has brought about is the reduction of forests. Thus, rain has become scanty, salinity of water has increased and even the entire water cycle stands disturbed. Moreover, due to global warming, the duration of seasons has reduced.

The tenure of summer has increased over the years and there are practically no seasons left especially in the tropical and sub-tropical regions.

This rise in temperature disturbs the rain cycle, the ecological balance, the cycle of seasons etc. It adversely affects vegetation and agriculture. Due to this, we have to face frequent floods and droughts throughout the world. With this increase in temperature and the melting of glaciers, even snowfall has reduced its occurrence and intensity. The winter temperatures are showing a gradual increase. With the warming of the planet there is also a rise in humidity because the rise in temperature has increased the rate of evaporation. Even though rains may increase, yet they will not match up to the rate with which the land gets dry due to rise in heat. Thus, even fertile regions might slowly get converted into dry lands and deserts. Storms and hurricanes will be frequent.

If the present trend of global temperature rise, continues, then, it is projected, that by 2030, maize production in Southern Africa could decrease by upto 30%. The yield in India could also plummet by 30-40%. This would increase the risk of malnutrition.

There is a danger of coastal regions drowning due to increase in sea level with the shrinking of glaciers. Thus there is a grave danger of an entire civilisation becoming extinct in a watery grave. Animals and plants are also finding it difficult to cope up with these temperature changes. Species after species of both flora and fauna might disappear from the face of the Earth. Not only this, even human life is getting affected by global warming. Epidemics are spreading frequently. There is heat stress responsible for killing people. Diseases like dengue fever, yellow fever and encephalitis are indirect results of global warming.

Governments all over the world are concerned about such issues. In 1992, the Earth Summit was held at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil where 150 countries agreed to confront the problem of greenhouse gases. In 1997, in Japan, 160 nations signed an agreement called Kyoto Protocol that commits state parties to reduce greenhouse gases emissions, based on the notion that global warming exists and man-made CO2 emissions have caused it. By May, 2011 the number increased to 194. The 2011 United Nations Climate Change Conference was held in Durban, South Africa, from 20 November to 9 December, 2011. The primary focus of this 17th session of the conference was to secure a global climate agreement. The protocol calls upon the developed nations to reduce the emissions of greenhouse gases upto 5% by 2012. The treaty still awaits to be implemented by the developed countries, especially the US.

Short Essay on Global Warming 200 Words in English

Below we have given a short essay on Global Warming is for Classes 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6. This short essay on the topic is suitable for students of class 6 and below.

Agreements and treaties signed at international level will not help reduce global warming. Serious and concrete efforts need to be made at the national and regional levels. The local governments should work against the emissions of the greenhouse gases by modernising the vehicles, creating awareness among the people, selling environment-friendly appliances, etc. Such efforts are needed by the people at the grass-root level. Only then we can combat this problem in an effective way.

At home and workplaces, electrical and electronic devices must be turned off and unplugged when not in use. Old and inefficient appliances must be replaced, as they consume a lot of energy. Locally grown and produced food should be preferred over that in malls and chain outlets. Use of paper should be minimised and re-use of plastics, cans etc should be encouraged. The amount of material used for packaging goods must be reduced.

Small steps often lead to big changes. It’s high time, that we realise where and how can we reduce our carbon footprints. After all, at present, Earth is the only planet where life exists. We have nowhere else to go.

Pandemic was a difficult phase for all. Did you know almost 1.2 billion children are out of schools in this pandemic as the schools are closed? Covid 19 has forced the schools to think about different ways of reaching out to the children as their future is at stake. To date, there is nothing official as to how long the schools will be closed. To strengthen the children’s learning, online classes were the only option left with the educational institutes. On an unprecedented scale, online classes were the best way to make students come into continuity with their academics. Till now, the teachers of schools, colleges, and coaching centers are reaching out to students via the internet for classes. Students now know about their syllabus, their day-to-day teachings and are also giving exams. They are getting into the routine of taking classes and gaining knowledge about their curriculum. This education system is not that effective for younger kids, but as long as the schools are closed, there is no other option left for class five and above kids. Educational institutes must continue with e-learning until there is no announcement made by the educational governments.

How is the Whole Education System Affected, And What Are They Doing for The Kids?

The whole education system is affected by the closure of the schools. A sudden shift from classroom learning to e-learning has made children, and their parents think that this system will continue in the times to come. All those students coming from well-off families have managed to continue with their classes online. But, for students who are poor and cannot afford an internet connection, their future has come to shut down. The same way as the educational institutes have, in this phase of lockdown. But, they need not get disheartened as one such institute has announced free online classes for everyone.

It is BYJUS that has managed to provide a free learning experience to kids across India. After they announced free live classes, this app became one of India’s best edtech companies. After the announcement of free classes, there is a growth of students by almost 200%. Thus, there are institutes like this, who are genuinely thinking about children’s education and their future.

Advantages Of Online Classes

  • Students will be aware of their academic syllabus: Students have become irregular with their studies due to the lockdown. Some don’t even know their course. With the help of online classes, they will understand what they need to study for the whole year. The parents of younger kids get a rough idea about their academic course to help their child in learning properly.
  • Students get the chance to record the class: it is not always that everything becomes clear in a 45 minute or a 60-minute class. Thus, the students get an opportunity to record a class and share the content of the class with others and their parents and friends. They have access to the learning material, the class and can hear the recording at their convenience.
  • Students will be regular and disciplined towards studies: the lockdown phase has put a complete stop. But, with the help of online classes, they are getting into the practice of regular studies. They need to attend the class as attendance is compulsory. Students have also been given a link that helps them join a particular class that allows them to be aware and concentrate on their studies. Homework is given by the teachers that help the student recollect what has been taught in the online class. Moreover, teachers are taking weekly tests online, which makes them understand what the child has understood.
  • Online classes keep the child engaged: None of the children were regular with their studies during the lockdown. Online classes have made the students regular in their day-to-day courses. They are no more wasting their time playing video games, making mischief, and watching TV. Online classes have set a routine for the kids and keep them engaged for a few hours.
  • There are fewer distractions during studies:  When the child is in the class, they either keep playing with other friends or are engaged in making mischief. But, here in the online class, the child is attending the class alone, and there are lesser chances of the child getting distracted. They can concentrate better and hear what the teacher says and explains.
  • Parents get aware of the child’s day-to-day learning: As the child is doing 3-5 classes every day, the parents are updated with what their children are learning. Parents may also look over their child’s study material. Parents feel more responsible towards studies as the child is learning everything through online classes. It becomes the responsibility of the parent to see whether the class is connected properly, to see whether their child has any queries regarding any question, course, or homework.
  • Efficient and productive for the teacher and the student:  through online teaching, the content can be shared with the students through PDF, images, and videos. The teachers find efficient ways to make the classes clear to the students. Making lesson plans using pdf and videos becomes easy. Apart from the textbooks, there are a plethora of options to study and understand the content.

Online Classes Advantages

Disadvantages Of Online Classes

  • Network Issues And Connection Failure: One of the significant issues with online classes is more chances of network issues and interruption. Due to bad weather conditions, the connection can get lost, and the class can be interrupted. The data over, signal lost are two.
  • Doubts are not very clear: Classes at school can be interesting as the teacher is right in front of you, like a one-to-one session. You can ask your doubts on the spot. But in an online class, if one child raises their hand, everyone does it for fun. Doubts are not very clear if everyone keeps asking one after the other by switching on their mike. This cannot be very pleasant for the teacher as well as the students.
  • It brings a feeling of isolation: when studying alone, one feels as if they are in a state of isolation. Learning alone with a computer can be monotonous and can be a terrible experience. Regular classes at school are fun-filled as the teacher and friends are there in the class. Doing the online classes with parents or alone can be uninteresting.
  • The chances of getting distracted are high: as the students are doing their online classes using the internet. They can get distracted by chatting with their friends while doing the class on whats app. Opening Social media accounts while doing online classes can distract the mind of children. There is a lack of continuity in learning for the child.
  • Students cannot focus on the class: if they keep asking their doubts while the class is going on, other students get distracted and cannot concentrate on what the teacher is teaching. Students cannot focus on the class with full concentration if the class is for long hours. Sharing the screen with the children becomes irritating for the teacher as the children misuse it.
  • The teacher cannot focus on each child: as the teacher is online, focusing on each student as they tend to switch off their screen. The teacher cannot see each child and has to scroll on the id of each child to solve their issues. This is a significant problem that teachers face while taking classes online.
  • Eye-sight issues: doing online classes can lead to eye-sight problems as the child is in front of the computer for a long time. Each school or coaching class schedules three to five classes each day. Thus, staying in front of the screen can be harmful to the eyes.
  • Not all students can afford internet access: this is one of the demerits of online classes that not all students of a school can afford an internet connection and a smartphone. According to a survey conducted by the government in 2019, only 24 % of the students in India have internet connections in their homes.

Conclusion on Online Classes Advantages and Disadvantages

COVID has affected everyone, those who are well-off and those who are barely earning their living. Pandemic has disrupted the education system too. It is the duty of the educational institutes to make everyone get the benefits of online classes. Face-to-face communication between students and teachers is not possible, seeing the condition of the lockdown. Thus, teachers need to find different ways to make the classes more interactive so that children can enjoy them and concentrate wholeheartedly.

Also, it helps the child with the concerned topic and thus helps him to discuss the same in the future if needed.
  • A ladder to Success: Gaining knowledge is important and it can be done in various stages like a child goes to school and then college for his education. Like school, college is also important to succeed and achieve dreams. With education, one can be more aware of his surroundings and can make better decisions in life.
  • Helps to Earn: Whether a child chooses to do his own business or join a job after growing up, education plays an important role in the same. If he’s interested in any particular subject or topic in school, he can pursue the same in higher education and thereby landing onto his favourite work role.
  • Keeps a child Engaged: Isn’t it good to be educated and work rather than sitting idle.  School provides an environment for a kid to grow and learn with fun. All play and no work at home will make him dumb. So going to school is a need for every child for his overall growth and development.
  • Overall Development: Nowadays, schools are not just a source of learning. It was a place to learn history chapters or to solve difficult mathematical problems. In the current time, a child must learn about other topics except just traditional learning.  They are already being motivated to develop their mind through following a flexible curriculum and their own thoughts. A child gets free from the mental blocks through good education and his imagination grows through time. The importance of school along with the importance of imagination is much needed.
